Education
Our Coordinator of Education Services is a current member of the Association of Professional Humane Educators.Education is key to our mission of promoting life long commitment to animal welfare and dignity. In 2008, the Edmonton Humane Society’s Education programs reached 67,697 children and adults through school and group visits. Presentations are free; however we do ask that you make a donation or contribute items from our Wish List in lieu of a fee.
Our presentation calendar fills quickly! Please book presentations and tours 4-6 weeks in advance!
Our educational presentations cover such topics as:
- Pet Care
- Kindness to Animals
- Animal Safety & Dog Bite Prevention
- Choosing a Pet
- Responsible Pet Ownership
- Overpopulation – Spay and Neuter
- Who We Are and What We Do
- Cosmetic Testing/Research
- Animal Welfare and Protection
- Careers with Animals
- The Violence Link: The Connection between Domestic Violence and Animal Abuse
- Pet Care Badge
The tools used to present these topics include videos, worksheets, handouts and Microsoft Power Point presentations. There are also stories and interactive games for younger students.
Presentations are made throughout the year and it is hopeful that the program will continue to reach more and more people in the Edmonton area. New programs are constantly being added to provide more variety for school and community groups.
