Meet Our Founder: Rosetta Graydon

Horses, tea parties and one woman’s determination: that’s how the Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) began in 1907.

Rosetta Graydon moved from Winnipeg to Edmonton in early 1894, when her husband George was asked to take over a drug store on Jasper Avenue, across from the Alberta Hotel*.

Each day, Rosetta watched travellers tie up their horses in the frigid winter temperatures, without food, water or shelter, while horse owners spent the night in a warm hotel bar.

INVESTIGATION INTO HORRIFIC KILLING OF CAT

EDMONTON, AB (December 22, 2022) – The Edmonton Humane Society (EHS) is deeply saddened and concerned about the recent incident in which a cat was killed by five teenage boys.

“This is a horrific act of cruelty, and our hearts go out to the family of the cat as well as those who witnessed the assault. We are thankful that Edmonton has a dedicated Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit (ACIU) who is taking this investigation seriously,” says CEO Liza Sunley.
