Make an Impact This #GivingTuesday

On Tuesday, November 28, the Edmonton Humane Society is joining #GivingTuesday - a global movement to inspire people to give back to the causes they feel passionate about. Each and every day homeless, neglected and abandoned companion animals enter our doors in need of a warm, safe space and compassionate care until they can find their new families. By making a gift this #GivingTuesday, you can make a difference in their lives and the families who give them a home. Each gift will make a difference in the lives of animals, like Gigi... With a gentle disposition and a loud purr, Gigi came to EHS in need of serious medical help when she contracted an eye infection. When the infection got out of control, her eye needed to be surgically removed so she could start recovery and return to the life of a happy house cat. Thankfully, she was able to get the care she needed for a pain-free life all because of generous animal lovers - like you. Yes, I'm Ready to Make an Impact! As a charity, we understand the value and importance of every dollar. And we know many are facing financial challenges right now. If making a monetary gift isn't possible right now, you can still be a part [...]

News Release: Saint Bernard Trio Returning to Edmonton for Pets in the Park

NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SAINT BERNARD TRIO RETURNING TO EDMONTON FOR PETS IN THE PARK EDMONTON, AB (May 22, 2019) – Gunther, Goliath and Gasket will be returning to Edmonton on Saturday, June 22 to be the honourary Walk Marshals at the Edmonton Humane Society’s (EHS) annual Pets in the Park festival. The three Saint Bernard brothers were adopted from EHS by a family in Calgary last October. The dogs, who have gained the nickname “the 3Gs”, garnered worldwide attention last fall when EHS put the call out for a special adopter who could take in all three of them. They required one home as they were bonded to each other, and experienced stress and anxiety when separated. Their story brought much-needed attention to shelter animals around the globe, reaching nearly 125 million people in 45 countries, and even being featured by NBC’s Today Show. “We are beyond excited to have Gasket, Gunther, Goliath and their family leading our walk at Pets in the Park this year,” said Liza Sunley, Chief Executive Officer of EHS. “Although their situation was unique, their story symbolizes that of so many homeless pets around the world. Fundraisers like Pets in the Park are vital for us to keep giving second chances to animals like them.” The event is held at Hawrelak Park and is the only day [...]

News Release: Edmonton Humane Society’s Adoption Event Successful Thanks to Outpouring of Support

NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE EDMONTON HUMANE SOCIETY’S ADOPTION EVENT SUCCESSFUL THANKS TO OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT Nearly all animals find their forever homes in first day of the ‘Clear Our Shelter’ Adoption Event including animals seized from a local pet store in late February. EDMONTON, AB (March 23, 2018) – The Edmonton Humane Society’s (EHS) “Clear Our Shelter” adoption event started today, and was a resounding success with nearly all of the available animals finding forever homes. EHS held the event because of an unusually high number of animals coming up for adoption, due to a recent seizure by their Animal Protection Officers from a local pet store. The animals were seized on February 27, after a concern was brought forward that they had been abandoned. Initially the animals were placed on a mandatory hold. Once the hold was lifted and EHS took legal ownership of the animals, they moved quickly to re-home the animals to ensure their optimal health and welfare. “We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community,” said Evan Lawlor, EHS spokesperson. “A constant stream of inquiries about the animals has been coming in since the event was announced Monday. The attention it received led to an increase in traffic at the shelter even before the event officially started.” The increase in traffic benefited animals that were already up [...]

Clear Our Shelter Adoption Event Friday & Saturday: Prepare to Find A New Forever Friend!

Coming to EHS adoption event this Friday and Saturday? Read this first! On Friday, March 23 (from 12 to 7 p.m.) and Saturday, March 24 (from 12 to 5 p.m.), we are hosting a ‘Clear Our Shelter’ adoption event to rehome hundreds of companion animals in need of a second chance! The community has been overwhelmingly supportive of this event and we are appreciative of everyone who wants to help give our shelter animals a loving, forever home. With the popularity of this event so far we are anticipating a very large crowd with many excited soon-to-be pet owners, and wanted to share some tips on how you can prepare! Before You Adopt A pet is a big commitment. Before anyone adopts, we encourage you to take some considerable time to discuss the commitment with your family, and research what type of pet would best fit your home and lifestyle. Some questions we recommend discussing with your family are: What type of pet would best fit our home and lifestyle? How long will this type of pet live? What are this animal’s needs for food, water, shelter, enrichment and veterinary care? Many of these species have specialized care and veterinary needs, which can be expensive. Do we have the space, supplies, time and resources to ensure it gets the care it needs? Will we have the time and resources to care for [...]
