Hello, my name is
Sadie

Rottweiler

1 Years 6 Months 2 Weeks

Dog

Female Spayed

AGE RESTRICTION
SINGLE DOG HOME REQUIRED
NO CATS

History:
- Transfer from another rescue agency
- Mouthy when excited
- High level of arousal when seeing other dogs, especially smaller dogs
- Returned for biting resident dog in ear after he got up to eat out of food bowl
- Resource guarding of food from other dogs
- Fearful in general towards loud noises, new people, and in new places/situations
- Signs of separation anxiety
- Reported to know sit

Behaviour observed in shelter:
- Social with unfamiliar handler when approached appropriately
- Mouthy player
- Social and playful with other dogs
- Some barrier reactivity
- Potential for separation anxiety (high assessment score)
- Enjoys playing with toys
- Excitable, pushy when meeting small dog

Recommendations:
- Positive reinforcement training; ignoring excitable behaviours (i.e. jumping) and rewarding calm behaviours (i.e. sitting) to curb impulsive behaviours
- EHS classes "Managing Mischief" if needed to help curb impulsive behaviours as well as learn cues
- Redirect mouthing to appropriate outlet (chews, toys), avoid wrestling and playing with hands
- "Basic O" to teach dog cues and foster the owner/dog bond
- Appropriate crate training, dog daycare, and Thundershirts should separation anxiety occur
- Ample exercise as well as mental stimulation such as clicker training and puzzle feeders to provide challenges and help dog cope with boredom, EHS classes "Brain Busters" and/or further training such as dog sports or nose work should dog require more mental exercise
- Continued socialization to help dog generalize and positive reinforcement training to counter-condition fear-based behaviours; reward dog for confident behaviours when introduced to strangers and other novel stimuli
- Interrupt and redirect/counter-condition unwanted behaviours such as barrier reactivity

Dog is mouthy and chews on objects as per medical history we recommend not allowing her to chew any destructible objects. Also avoid off leash areas in the winter (when she may slip) as she hurt one of her legs previously but has recovered.
