American Staffordshire Terrier

He knows sit, shake, sometimes offers down and is even reportedly house trained.
When Waylon is excited he will jump up, mouth, and begin tugging on leashes or your sleeves, which will result in bruising. With patience and appropriate training this behaviour can be managed and worked through, but it will require a commitment to mentally and physically stimulating him, an understanding of behaviour, dedication to setting a routine and management, and comfort in handling large impulsive dogs like him.
When on leash he is very easily excited when he sees people or dogs. He will pull, whine, bark, jump in place, jump on, and mouth people he approaches on leash. His leash reactivity is based in frustration and excitement, and will require further training. To help you help Waylon, his adoption fee includes a complimentary group training class (Leash Reactivity 101) to address his leash reactivity.
He enjoys playing with dogs of similar play style: rough biteyface, wrestling, chase play, tumbling and body slamming. He is very easily excited when meeting other dogs and is not the best at controlling his arousal, which can teeter over to squabbles if he is paired with an incompatible dog or put into group scenarios. He has been enjoying dog dates with similarly rough players while in shelter. He has not lived with cats before. His previous owner says he attempts to chase them.
He is very food motivated and quick to catch on to learning new tricks. He loves to play with toys and enjoys durable chews. He is a very high energy boy who benefits from being exercised both mentally and physically and being told how good looking he is after.
He is looking for an experienced and dedicated home where he can be the centre of attention, has more outlets for his energy, and can better learn with a consistent training routine.
