Ready… Set… Connect with Pets in your Neighbourhood!

1a: Get Active Outdoors

Spend some time in the back yard, or get outdoors in your neighbourhood and beyond to participate in this part of the Pets in the Park event. If you are ready and able to get outside, we’ve put together a few articles for how to make the most of your time outdoors with your animal companions.

Spend Time Safely Outdoors With Pets
Have a Pet Picnic

Did you know Edmonton has almost 400 officially named parks???

If you’re in the City of Edmonton, you can use the Neighbourhood Interactive Map to explore your area virtually and plan your next walk.

We’ve also included a link to locate Edmonton Dog Off-Leash Areas for you to explore with your canine companions.

1b: Get Active – Indoors

If you’re not able to get outdoors here are some suggestions for how to enjoy time indoors and connect with pets:

  • Walk around your home and outdoor spaces while counting your steps. As you try to travel through every room in your home, make as wide of a loop as possible and consider how a Dog, Cat, or Rabbit would navigate in this space.
  • Set up a mini obstacle course in your larger spaces such as a basement, living room, or den – really anywhere that you can safely set up. Next take your time to navigate it on your own or with your pet and see if you can get through without knocking over any of your obstacles.
  • Get out your crayons and take part in the Pets in the Park Colouring Contest for children ages 3 -13 to have a chance to win a free EHS stuffy!

Indoors or Outdoors

Bringing as much of our usual Pets in the Park line up to you virtually this year we’ve picked a few games from our usual Canine Carnival that can be modified for most pets to play so you can host you’re very own Pet Carnival At Home and share your videos online for a chance to win a prize pack for people and pets!

IMPORTANT reminder from Edmonton Fire Rescue Services: please keep your dogs on leash while enjoying the spring weather when near the river.

There have been a number of scary and tragic incidents with dogs falling through the ice, and unfortunately, they are on the rise.

Another tip EFRS shares to keep your dog safe is to make sure they will obey your commands before going near water. Recall is one of the most valuable skills you can teach your dog, helping protect them wherever you go! Find out how to build successful recall with your dog using our free behaviour guide at http://bit.ly/EHSDogRecallGuide.
