Do you want to understand dog personalities better and feel confident in training your paw-some pal?

Whether you’re looking to improve your skills in dog-handling as an animal care professional or a animal guardian, our dog behaviour training classes will give you exposure to a variety of canine breeds and behaviours while you learn and develop skills in identifying dog body language, how to modify common behavioural issues, and how to train new behaviours using force-free training.

These programs are for people – do not bring your own dog to class. They will not be admitted as you will be working with animals in our care at EHS.

ㅤOur Classesㅤ

Introduction to Dog Behaviour and Training

Our six-week class is perfect for groomers, dog-walkers, kennel attendants, and anyone who is passionate about understanding dogs better!

In this unique class offering, you’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our expert trainers at EHS and interact safely with shelter animals for a one-of-a-kind experience with both classroom and hands-on learning. By gaining a deeper understanding of training methods, you can help facilitate humane, positive human-dog interactions to provide the best possible experience for the dogs you work with.

Please note that you must be 18 years of age or older, have a current tetanus shot, and be in good physical health for this program.

Dog Behaviour and Methodology Certificate

Through this course, our goal is to ensure you receive quality, current information on dog behaviour, dog body language, current training techniques and, of course, dealing with people.  Upon completion of this course, you will receive your DBTM certificate, making this program ideal for anyone who is looking to start their own canine training business.

The Edmonton Humane Society is the best facility for you to gain experience with a variety of dog behaviour issues, while giving you access to experts who work with them. A high percentage of owners relinquish their dogs to shelters due to behaviour concerns. And most of these issues are manageable!

Please note that you must be 18 years of age or older, have a current tetanus shot, and be in good physical health for this program.
