EHS’ Humane Heroes after-school program is a hands-on educational club for youth aged 13-17 who are ready to take their passion for animals to the next level. Designed for participants who have aged out of our younger programs, this four-week experience inspires compassion, leadership and a deeper understanding of animal welfare.

Through meaningful, behind-the-scenes experiences and interactions, Humane Heroes participants will support shelter operations, explore careers in animal care and build real-world skills that make a difference. Youth will learn what it takes to care for animals in a professional setting while growing into confident, informed advocates for animal welfare.

Over the course of this program, participants will:

  • Explore career paths in animal care and welfare.
  • Gain hands-on experience supporting shelter operations, working alongside various EHS departments.
  • Develop leadership, teamwork and advocacy skills.
  • Deepen their understanding of compassion and responsible animal care.

Participants who complete the program will be recognized with a certificate of achievement at a graduation ceremony.
