26th Annual Pets in the Park, presented by PetPlan Pet Insurance
June 24, 2018 at Hawrelak Park
Edmonton’s official Pet Festival is back for it's 26th year! This is the only day of the year that Hawrelak Park opens up to our furry, feathered and scaly friends. On Sunday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., bring your whole family (four-legged members included!) for sun, fun and a dog-gone good time!
Walk or Fun Run
You can help give animals a second chance by taking part in the festival’s walk or fun run. Each year, people like you continue to show your love and support for animals in need by raising much-needed funds. These funds give homeless, abandoned and neglected companion animals the medical care, treatment and love they need.
This year there will be the Royal Canin “K9” km fun run as well as the Tail Blazers 2.5 km walk. All registrants will receive unique race swag and fundraising efforts are rewarded with exciting prizes. We're also thrilled to have Edmonton Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot and his wife Kelly as our Walk Marshals! Join Cam and Kelly by registering today - create your own team, join an existing team, or sign up as an individual, and help the thousands of animals that come through our doors to leave with new, loving families.
Through our pledge-driven 2.5 km walk and "K9" km fun run, people of all ages help raise crucial funds that help give hope and new homes to countless animals in need. Be part of the tradition!
Can't do the walk or run this year? You can still support the event by making a pledge and helping animals in need.
What's Happening at Pets in the Park?
This family-friendly event offers something for everyone, including four-legged family members and young animal lovers – and it’s home to Edmonton’s only all-ages, pet friendly beer garden! We're planning some fur-tastic activities for the 2018 Pets in the Park that's paws-itively guaranteed to provide fun for the whole pack! Here's a sneak peak of what to expect:
- Canine Carnival where you can play games with your pup and win prizes
- Disc dog, flyball and water dog demos
- Kids Zone with face painting and bouncy castles
- Daschund races
- Characters from your children's favourite shows and movies
- "Ask Dr. Ted" sessions with local veteriarian and EHS volunteer, Dr. Ted Purcell to answer your pet-related health questions
- Sit, Stay, Squat and Yoga in the Park
- Plus, your favourite local food trucks with lots of tasty treats
Limited parking spaces are available at Hawrelak Park, however the parking lots may fill up. We encourage people to explore other modes of transport including walking, biking or public transit (see rules for pets on ETS here).
We will also be offering a shuttle service from the nearby Windsor Car Park at the University of Alberta. The shuttle runs between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and costs $1.00 per person. Pets are permitted on the shuttle, provided they are on a leash or in a carrier.
Our biggest fundraising event of the year, Pets in the Park can only be made possible with the help of an outstanding volunteer team! We are currently recruiting volunteers for set up on Saturday, June 23rd and day-of activities on Sunday, June 24th including walk / run registration, silent auction, 50/50 sales, party (parking) patrol, beer tent and more.
You must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer independently. Youth volunteers between 12 to 17 years are welcome to volunteer with a parent in certain areas. We ask for a minimum commitment of four hours.
If you are able to help out at this year's event, please click the button below to complete the volunteer application. We appreciate your support in making this event a success!
Bringing Your Pet
A reminder that all pets must be properly restrained at all times (on a leash or in a carrier). For the safety of our human and animal guests, retractable leashes are NOT allowed.
To make sure all our four-legged friends have fun and stay safe, please review this checklist before bringing your pet:
- My pet's vaccinations are up-to-date
- My pet is socialable with other animals
- My pet will be properly restrained
- I will monitor my pet for heat sensitivity
- I will pick up after my pet
- I will know where the water stations are in case my pet gets thirsty or needs to cool down
